How do we navigate the many demands and expectations tied to academic careers? Where does the pressure in the system really come from? What influence do researchers actually have? And what do we need from one another to move forward?

SCIENCE HOOPS invites you to step into these questions—literally. This is not your typical theatre performance. It’s an engaging mix of storytelling, reflection, and experimentation. Actors bring to life real, often confronting, situations from the academic world—scenes that will challenge you to think about what truly matters in science. And then, the real work begins. Your thoughts, questions, and concerns take centre stage.

Together, we explore the dilemmas and possibilities of academic life. You don’t just watch -you participate. The audience helps shape the direction of the story. Through dialogue, shared experiences, and scenario play, we imagine new ways forward.

SCIENCE HOOPS is created by theatre makers Mens in de Maak and the department of Ethics, Law and Medical Humanities AUMC; this performance is made possible with the support of RIOS (Centre for Research Integrity and Open Science at the VU Amsterdam) & the Netherlands Research Integrity Network (NRIN).

When: 17 October, 2025

Where: Wereldmuseum, Leiden
We are excited to announce that the NRIN Annual Symposium 2025, with the central theme ‘Research Integrity in a Disruptive Academic Context: from AI to Academic Freedom’, will be held on 17th October 2025 at Wereldmuseum Leiden (see location here: link).

This year’s symposium will feature thematic presentations and workshop sessions designed to encourage interactive discussions, networking, and mutual learning among participants.

The symposium is a free onsite event (registration required!) open to both the Dutch and international academic communities. We invite academics, researchers, students, policy advisors, and other non-academic staff to join us at this event, which promises to spark discussions and critical reflections on pressing issues such as academic freedom, AI, trust in science, and the consequences for research integrity!

Contributions to the symposium are available only by invitation from the NRIN Annual Symposium Organising Committee. We are not accepting abstract proposals.

This satellite meeting will happen on the 1st day of the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) Congress 2025, which will be held from 22nd to 24th September 2025 in Ljubljana (Slovenia).

Are you a member of a research integrity network/office, are you a research integrity practitioner and/or would you like to connect with others who are raising awareness on research integrity at the national and transnational level? You’re welcome to join us onsite or online! Feel free to reach out to us (info@nrin.nl).

This informal gathering aims to promote dialogue, build contacts, and facilitate peer learning through the exchange of experiences, mainly focusing on good practices and barriers faced by participants in their own contexts for raising awareness of research integrity. As a tangible outcome of the meeting, we plan to create and subsequently share an inventory of good practices and strategies to address the challenges reported by participants. We expect the meeting to serve as an initial step towards strengthening collaboration and enabling contact (e.g., 1:1 consultations) among participants, for example, through a digital channel.

You are welcome to share this invitation with anyone you believe would benefit from attending the meeting.

We look forward to meeting you at the 2nd Global Satellite Research Integrity Networking Meeting!

Where: Vancouver, Canada

The 9th World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI) will be held from May 3 to 6, 2026, in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. The WCRI is open to all disciplines, all professional ranks, and all career stages, and involves all stakeholders in research integrity, including universities, research institutes, research funders, publishers, and governments. The conference is lively and interactive, and the program consists of a mix of research findings, reflection and policy development.

Previous WCRI conferences typically produce an influential policy statement such as the Singapore Statement, the Hong Kong Principles and the Cape Town Statement. The intention with WCRI 2026 is to do likewise.

WCRIs take a strong view on ethnic, gender, geographical, disciplinary and career stage diversity, and ensure that this is reflected in the program, the keynote speakers, the committee members, and the participants. WCRIs give special attention to early career professionals, and organise a doctoral forum, workshops, and meet-the-expert sessions for them during the conference.

Each WCRI emphasizes a specific theme, but all cater for the entire range of research integrity issues and responsible research practices. The Vancouver meeting will be similar and highlight Indigenous ways of being and research integrity and will also further explore the relation between artificial intelligence and research integrity.

(the following text was copied from the Congress webpage)

The ENRIO 2025 Congress in Ljubljana will continue the newly established series of biennial events addressing research integrity practice (RI) and the development of responsible research in Europe. ENRIO 2025 is organised by the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).

Thematically, the Congress will emphasise power dynamics in research and institutional responsibility to foster an open, safe and inclusive research environment as a foundation for RI in everyday practice. In a broader global context, this also implies the recognition of fairness, equity and diversity as essential components of RI, as outlined in the Cape Town Statement of 2022. Contributions will reflect the range of challenges, as well as practical and emerging solutions for prevention and awareness raising.

The Congress is aimed at all experts in research integrity and research ethics, RI officers and practitioners, members of ethics and investigation committees, representatives of research funding organisations and sponsors, and all interested and involved in the enhancement and sustainable implementation of good RI practices and policies.

Relevant subthemes include:

Tensions in RI training and teaching

Different forms of discrimination and how to overcome those

Abuse of authority and ways of prevention

Conflicts of interests and commitment

Challenges in collaborative and international research

Equitable research assessment and reward systems
